Enzo Maresca has admitted he would be prepared to sell players in January if they tell him they want to leave, but is unsure if Christopher Nkunku will push for an exit.

The Blues have made a brilliant start to the season and currently sit second in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool and two ahead of third placed Arsenal.

Chelsea are exceeding expectations and are well on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League, although there’s still over half the season left.

Maresca unsure if Nkunku wants to leave in January

Maresca has got a number of options at his disposal especially in attack, and the Blues are the second highest scorers in the league with 37 goals, whilst they have only lost two of their 17 league games.

The 44-year-old seems to be pretty set on his first choice attacking quartet, with Nicolas Jackson leading the line, Cole Palmer in the number ten, with Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto on the wings.

This has meant limited opportunities for Nkunku who has started just two Premier League games all season, although he’s fared better in the cup competitions and has five goals and three assists in five Conference League games.

Nkunku’s lack of minutes has seen him linked with a move to a Barcelona, whilst it’s also been claimed he’s unhappy with his current role.

With the January window just around the corner Maresca has admitted he won’t stand in anyone’s way if they express a desire to leave, but was unsure if Nkunku would do that.

“If they knock on the door and they want to leave, I’m not going to say, “No, you have to stay here, 100 per cent,” he told Mail Sport.

“If they want to leave, the best thing for everyone is that the players who aren’t happy leave.

“We like Christo and we want him here and there will always be players that are not happy and some that will ask to leave in January. I am not sure if that will be Christo’s or another player’s case. We want to keep them here because we are happy with them.”
