Liverpool's attacking line has massively let them down this season.

Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah have put in some of the worst performances of their careers with the latter of the two even set to exit Anfield at the end of the campaign.

This has caused the rumour mill to work overtime with several attackers such as Bazoumana Toure, Yan Diomande and Morgan Rogers all being linked with a transfer.

However, since the Reds are a sell-to-buy club, it's clear that some tough decisions will need to be made due to the small transfer budget they'll likely have.

Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak were supposed to be Liverpool's next Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino but, with the injuries that have plagued the two strikers, it's clear that won't be the case, not until deep into the 2026-27 season anyway.

With all of this in mind, it's hardly surprising to see Liverpool's interest in another attacker now emerging.

Igor Paixao is high on Liverpool's shortlist

Igor Paixao may have only just joined Olympique Marseille at the start of the season but several clubs are already vying for his transfer.

The attacker has been a revelation for the Ligue 1 outfit this term as he's contributed to 19 goals across all competitions.

Paixao has mainly been used on the left wing by the French team, and, even though he cost Marseille £26 million last summer, it's clear that they'll want much more to allow him to exit in the 2026-27 summer window.

That is, according to an update from online outlet Sports Boom who say that Marseille are looking for around £52 million to allow the 25-year-old to exit.

Although the Ligue 1 outfit wish to 'retain' the Brazilian, the financial struggles that the club are currently facing mean that they could be 'forced' into moving the left-winger on.

Arsenal and Liverpool are the two Premier League teams who want to sign the former Feyenoord man with the attacker featuring 'prominently' on the Richard Hughes' transfer plans.

The report describes Paixao as the 'perfect fit' and the fact that Slot has worked with him at his previous club means that he knows the best way to use the Brazilian.

Bayer Leverkusen are also 'monitoring' his situation and, while Nottingham Forest previously held an interest in the attacker, their Premier League struggles have made a potential move 'unrealistic' this summer.

Even though Paixao has only spent one season in one of Europe's top five leagues, it's clear that he's an exceptional talent.

The attacker has mainly been used as a left winger this term but there was been the odd occasion when he's been used as an attacking-midfielder instead.

During his time under Slot at Feyenoord, Paixao contributed to 16 goals across all competitions and, since he's already played in Slot's system before, he'd be able to fit right in.

When Slot was his manager, the Brazilian was also used as a right-winger which means he could easily fill the void that Salah is set to leave behind.

The £52 million fee is rather steep but, with how much quality he's shown over the last couple of years and the fact that he's already been managed by Slot, he could be the perfect player for Liverpool to target.
