Corinthians visit Santa Fe at Bogotá’s El Campín a decade after their last meeting, with the ground set to make way for a new arena in 2027.
According to Globo.com, El Campín, opened in 1938, has staged four Corinthians matches, the last a 0-0 with Millonarios in the 2018 Libertadores.
Other trips were a 1-1 against Independiente Medellín in 2010 and a 1-0 over Millonarios in 2013, before a 1-1 with Santa Fe in 2016, the only meeting between the sides at this venue.
Home to Santa Fe and Millonarios, El Campín is being overhauled while matches and shows continue. Bogotá City Hall, the District Institute of Sport and Recreation, and the Sencia consortium have begun building a new stadium alongside the active pitch. Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán has said it will be the most modern sports and entertainment centre in Latin America.
Plans include capacity for more than 50,000, a roof that opens or closes in 15 minutes, a next generation surface, retractable seating and infrastructure to stage events in under 24 hours. With capacity rising from 36,343, the aim is for the new El Campín to host Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana finals.
Underlining the stadium’s status, Colombia will play their final match before the World Cup there on the 29th, a friendly against Costa Rica. Corinthians face Santa Fe on Wednesday at 21:30 Brasília time in Group E of the Libertadores, the fourth round, seeking early qualification for the last 16 after three straight wins.
