Morgan Rogers’ record-breaking transfer to Chelsea FC could also have implications for FC Bayern. Thanks to the millions in revenue generated by Aston Villa, hopes are rising in Munich that the English Premier League club will make a serious move for Joao Palhinha.

For Bayern Munich, Joao Palhinha remains among the players on the chopping block this summer transfer window. The Munich club would like to remove the Portuguese national team player from the payroll as soon as possible and, according to media reports, is demanding a transfer fee of around 25 million euros.

So far, however, this demand has proven to be a hurdle. Sporting Lisbon is said to have withdrawn from the race as a result, while Benfica is still considered a potential suitor but apparently does not want to pay the requested amount immediately. Juventus and AC Milan are also repeatedly linked to Palhinha, though no concrete negotiations have been reported so far.

Aston Villa suddenly has significantly more room to maneuver

This new momentum could now give Aston Villa an edge in the transfer negotiations. The Premier League club sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea FC for a transfer fee of around 137 million euros, making it the most expensive transfer of the summer so far.

According to reports, this is in addition to further revenue from the sale of Youri Tielemans, who is said to have brought in more than 40 million euros. In total, Aston Villa now has transfer proceeds of just under 180 million euros.

Although the English club has already invested around 100 million euros in Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, it remains in the black financially—and would thus have the funds to make a move for Palhinha as well.

Bayern hopes for a permanent transfer

From Bayern Munich’s perspective, there is another reason for optimism. Aston Villa’s interest in Palhinha is said to have existed even before the most recent transfers were finalized. Furthermore, the profiles of the new signings so far differ significantly from that of the Bayern player.

While Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi are primarily offensive-minded players, Palhinha is a classic defensive midfielder. This is precisely the position Aston Villa needs to fill following Amadou Onana’s cruciate ligament tear.

Although the Portuguese player recently returned to Säbener Straße for preseason training and completed the mandatory fitness tests, a departure is still considered likely. Both FC Bayern and Palhinha are reportedly open to a transfer if a suitable offer comes along.

Should Aston Villa actually use its recent millions in revenue to sign the 30-year-old, Max Eberl could pull off another major sale. That would not only generate additional revenue but also further increase the record champion’s financial flexibility for the remainder of the transfer window.
