FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit has suggested that Anel Ahmedhodzic and Jesuran Rak-Sakyi could both depart Bramall Lane this January

With Sheffield United already contesting an early Championship promotion bid after a strong start to the 2024-25 season, the January transfer window will soon be arriving, and there will be plenty to ponder for manager Chris Wilder.

Wilder will be eager to look into his Blades squad in January but will also be cautious surrounding interest in large parts of his team due to the current success.

One of which could be reliable centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic. The Bosnian has proven to be a brilliant option at Championship level despite his struggles in the Premier League, but he could once again find himself of interest to clubs when the transfer window reopens.

Back in the summer, he was the subject of interest from major Italian sides in Atalanta and Napoli, and after his start to this Championship season, there's every chance that European interest could re-emerge.

Another issue that could emerge is the situation of Crystal Palace loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. The 22-year-old winger has proven to be an exciting talent at Bramall Lane, and despite Palace loaning him to the Blades for game-time, the Eagles' struggles in the Premier League could lead to a potential January recall.

Sheffield United: January interest predicted in Anel Ahmedhodzic and potential Rak-Sakyi recall

FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy (of The Blades Ramble on YouTube), has predicted that there will be suitors expressing their interest in Ahmedhodzic this coming January, but he can also reluctantly see Rak-Sakyi heading back to Selhurst Park.

"Well, the January transfer window, two things I could see happening - I could see big offers coming in for some of our players, the only player we are susceptible of potentially losing is Anel Ahmedhodzic," Jimmy said whilst speaking to Football League World.

"He's got 18 months left on his contract, and we would want to get peak value for him if he isn't going to sign a new deal.

"I think the other thing we could see is Rak-Sakyi leaving the club.

"It would be a huge shame, and despite being fairly confident in Andre Brooks' ability to step in to that right-midfield role, but many fans would be keen, I'm sure, to see a Rak-Sakyi replacement by investing in the market."

There is no denying that Ahmedhodzic and Rak-Sakyi have been integral to Wilder's plans and Sheffield United's at the start of the season, but that doesn't mean they aren't replaceable.

Ahmedhodzic's future has always seemed up in the air regarding past interest, which not only includes Serie A clubs, but also Premier League sides Wolves and Ipswich Town.

With this in mind, and the 18 months remaining on his contract, it could be wise for the Blades to cash in whilst they can, or else they risk losing him for nothing in 2026.

With their form in the league, United could easily attract attention for a well-thought of replacement, although they have decent enough depth as it is with Jack Robinson, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Alfie Gilchrist all capable of stepping in.

As for Rak-Sakyi, a recall back to Palace would be a devastating loss for Wilder.

United had to fend off a ton of interest to make the move happen in the first place, and he's now starting to consistently show why he was sought after so much over the summer.

Palace recalling him to feature for their own uses wouldn't come as a surprise, but again, their academy graduates could be utilised once more, with the aforementioned Brooks impressing so far this season when he's had a chance.
