Liam Rosenior has just taken a press conference we’ve all been very curious about – and not because we want to know about who will face Port Vale.
The Chelsea boss had some serious dressing room issues to deal with after two of his players spoke out during the international break. Most notably Enzo Fernandez followed up his comments about “not knowing” where his future would be with an open flirtation with Real Madrid.
Rosenior has come down hard on the midfielder.
“I spoke with Enzo an hour ago,” the manager revealed.
“As a football club, with me as part of the decision, he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game or Manchester City next Sunday. A line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build.”
The reality is that Enzo likely wouldn’t have played in tomorrow’s game anyway. He’s only freshly back from international duty in South American and it’s a nice chance to rest him. But telling him he can’t play against Manchester City is at least something.
It means the team is hurting its own chances of winning, but sometimes you’ve got to draw a line in the sand.
Chelsea were apparently frustrated that Enzo has been so open about wanting to leave after they protected him last season.
