Manchester City slumped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Bodø/Glimt at the Aspmyra Stadion last night. The loss means that Pep Guardiola’s side now has a fight on its hands to secure a top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase table. Kjetil Knutsen’s team was well-organised and exploited Manchester City’s weaknesses and was rewarded with a famous victory, which they fully deserved. After the game, Erling Haaland unloaded his frustrations at Manchester City’s defeat. While everything Haaland said was correct, he needs to up his game to help Pep Guardiola’s side snap out of their funk.
Speaking with Football on TNT, Erling Haaland unleashed his frustration at Manchester City’s performance against Bodø/Glimt. He labeled his team’s performance as embarrassing, although he admitted that Bodø/Glimt fully deserved their win. Worryingly, Haaland couldn’t put his finger on what had happened to his team. He explained:: “I don’t have the answers. I take full responsibility of not being able to score the goals I should do, I just apologize to everyone. Every single Man City supporter and every single supporter that traveled today, because in the end it’s embarrassing.”
“Bodø they played some incredible football and in the end it’s deserved. Honestly, I don’t know what to say because I don’t have the answers, and what I can say is sorry.”
Nothing that Erling Haaland said after Manchester City’s disappointing defeat was wide of the mark. Manchester City weren’t good enough, and their performance wasn’t at the expected level. They paid the price for this as Bodø/Glimt took full advantage, putting City to the sword. Erling Haaland was a frustrated figure throughout last night’s match. He was often seen waving his arms in frustration, and Haaland didn’t receive the service he needs to thrive. Despite this, given that Haaland is a recognized leader at Manchester City, his team needs a lot more from him.
Pep Guardiola’s side needs Haaland to put himself about and get involved in the physical side of the game. He is fatigued, like many of his teammates, but the Norwegian international needs to lead the way and inspire his team. Haaland hasn’t played well in Manchester City’s past two matches and he has only scored one goal in his past eight appearances. Erling Haaland is a much better player then that, and he needs to lift to help lead his team.
Erling Haaland unleashed his frustration after Manchester City’s 3-1 defeat to Bodø/Glimt. Everything he said was on the money. He now needs to lift his game to hopefully inspire his team to snap out of the funk they find themselves in.
