OK…it’s back to Europe and I’ve spent the last week reviewing Nice, and I can sum them up in just one line. They’re a bunch of prima donnas, who are paid to jog round the park.
Honestly, I was shocked. I have seldom seen a team with so little motivation. They are disjointed, never seem to bust a gut, and never seem to want to fight for the ball.
OK I am going to say it, they are just too nice.
I did try to work out their tactics, but I kept falling asleep. However, after I woke up I found they are fifth in the French league, which I guess means they are a good team?
But if they were playing for Rangers, our fans would be heading for the door after just 5 minutes…..ohh actually their fans do one better. They just don’t bother to turn up.
Despite scoring both goals against Twente from open play, against us they will be more dangerous from corners and free kicks. However, I have to say they do have some talent up front.
Their primary weaknesses are they are not very good at getting the ball up the park to their strikers, their press is non-existent, and they do not seem to have any game plan to close down space, which give opponents humongous amounts of time on the ball. So much so, it just seems to confuse them.
Their opponents are so used to being closed down quickly, they automatically think they have to jump a tackle as soon as they get the ball, and then suddenly realise no one is around them. Honestly it was hilarious.
But it was after watching the fourth video of their play that, I suddenly thought it might be better to talk about what is going wrong at Rangers. And that’s in the next one.
In terms of Nice, if Phil can motivate his players to be Thursday Rangers, we do have a chance of the three points.
But he didn’t against the other Frenchies in Lyon…
