Abdul Fatawu completes Ipswich Town move as Leicester secure record fee for League One departure | OneFootball

Leicester City have confirmed Abdul Fatawu has joined Premier League side Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee, with the transfer subject to league and international approval. The 22-year-old departs the King Power Stadium after three years.

LeicesterMercury.co.uk understands City will receive £20 million plus £3 million in add-ons. That figure makes the Ghana international the most expensive departure from a League One club, a record previously held by Jeremy Monga after his move to Manchester City.

He initially arrived on loan from Sporting Lisbon at the start of 2023/24, then signed permanently the following summer after Leicester lifted the Championship title. He made 100 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 goals.

Fatawu delivered six Championship goals and 13 assists in that promotion campaign. An ACL injury then disrupted his debut season in the Premier League.

He returned to full fitness last summer and started strongly, scoring against Charlton Athletic, Birmingham City and Swansea City. He later struck from the halfway line against Ipswich in December and put together a run of four goals in seven early in the year. He finished with one late-season goal, in a 2-0 win over Bristol City, and was unable to keep Gary Rowett's side in the league.

After helping Ghana reach the round of 32 at this summer's World Cup, Fatawu now gets the chance to play in the Premier League under Gary O'Neil.
