Abel Ferreira approves as Palmeiras ‘to enquire’ about Cuiabano at Vasco | OneFootball

Palmeiras have made enquiries about Vasco da Gama left-back Cuiabano, with Abel Ferreira approving the target, according to RedeTV!. The defender is owned by Nottingham Forest and is on loan in Rio only until the end of the year.

The search for cover intensified after a serious injury to Joaquín Piquerez. Valued at around eight million euros, the former Botafogo player would attract a major outlay, and Palmeiras’ interest gives Vasco a heavyweight financial rival in the next window.

Wearing No 66, Cuiabano has made an immediate impact under Renato Gaúcho, who has granted him licence to attack. In five appearances he has produced three assists and two goals, including in the 12 March win over Palmeiras and another against Grêmio.

The full-back came through Grêmio’s academy, then moved to Botafogo before switching to England, and chances were limited amid injuries. He was promoted by Renato Gaúcho at Grêmio, injuries interrupted his progress, and the coach has since praised his resurgence at Vasco.

With his contribution, Vasco have climbed from bottom to ninth. They face Coritiba on Wednesday at 20:30 at Couto Pereira.
