Aberdeen v Celtic re-scheduled for Wednesday 4th March, live on Sky Sports | OneFootball

Celtic’s postponed match away to Aberdeen which was the subject of a late call-off last night due to a waterlogged section of the Pittodrie pitch, has now been re-arranged for Wednesday 4th March….

Sky Sports has also confirmed that they will be at Pittodrie to broadcast the match live. The broadcaster reported:

‘Rearranged Pittodrie clash between Aberdeen and Celtic will take place on March 4, live on Sky Sports, with kick-off at 8pm; the original fixture was called off less than four hours ahead of kick-off on Wednesday after weeks of “prolonged rain” made the surface unplayable.’

‘Aberdeen’s postponed match against Celtic has been rearranged for March 4, live on Sky Sports.’

‘The two clubs were due to meet at Pittodrie on Wednesday, however, the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. It’s after the Dons were concerned by an area of the surface at the Merkland end of the stadium following “prolonged rain over the last few weeks”, and called for a pitch inspection.’

This trip back to Pittodrie will come just a few days after Celtic’s trip to Ibrox for the Glasgow Derby match against theRangers on Sunday 1st March.

Meanwhile Celtic posted a short update about the postponement on the club’s official website earlier today.

‘It is extremely regrettable that last night’s match against Aberdeen was postponed, particularly at such a late stage. While we understand the decision, clearly, we sympathise with our supporters, many of whom had begun making their journeys or had arrived in Aberdeen already.’

‘We have raised the matter with the SPFL, to understand whether the SPFL Pitch Inspection Protocol was followed correctly. In our view, there must be the ability to make earlier decisions on matches.’

‘We are very sorry that our fans have been inconvenienced in this way and thank you sincerely for your support.’

Pittodrie call-off could turn out to be a blessing in disguise

We suffered something of a disappointment yesterday afternoon when it was announced that our vital trip to Pittodrie was called off due to a section of the pitch being waterlogged.

We can all debate as much as we like about the Dons failing to take the right precautions in the lead up to the game, due to the heavy weather that has plagued the Grampian region in recent weeks, but in the end it was the correct call due to the state of the playing surface. Player safety must come first

With Hearts losing at St Mirren the previous night it was a cruel blow to be denied the opportunity to cut the gap to three points, not to mention theRangers moving above us into second place and bolstering their goal differential in the process thanks to playing the entire game against a ten man relegation threatened Kilmarnock side, but despite all that, we’re very much still in contention.

It could well go in our favour, as odd as that may seem, but let’s look at the positives. We’ve been a little leg weary recently due to mass of fixtures which keep piling up as we fight on three fronts, in the league, Scottish Cup and the Europa League.

A gruelling ninety minutes on a cut up rain soaked Pittodrie surface would have further weakened those Celtic limbs. So getting to put their feet up and ease the strain a little will only aid our worn out squad.

Our recent new signings will also get the luxury of a few more days to bed in, which will also be of benefit, as the fixtures come thick and fast.

We can now head into Saturday’s cup clash with Dundee fresh both physically and mentally, with the new boys having had a few more days to acclimatise and prepare  themselves for the battles that lie ahead.

That call off could well be a blessing in disguise with a run of vital fixtures on the horizon.

After Dundee on Saturday afternoon  it’s a home clash against rock bottom Livingston, before we head to second bottom Kilmarnock a few days later, and a decent chance to rack up the points and bolster our goal differential before we get ready to take on Stuttgart in the Europa play offs with a home match against Hibs sandwiched in between the two games against the Bundesliga side.

That’s how February looks then it’s a St David’s Day visit to Ibrox for the Glasgow Derby then we head back up to Aberdeen for the re-arranged match on Wednesday 4th March. By that time we’ll be top of the league looking down on both Hearts and theRangers…
