Former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan recently revealed that he has urged John Textor to buy Sheffield Wednesday.

Textor currently owns around 45% of Crystal Palace, but he is also the majority shareholder of Ligue One side Olympique Lyonnais.

Following the Eagles’ FA Cup triumph, both teams have qualified for next season's Europa League and the American businessman is now looking to sell his stake in the club in order for them to compete in the tournament.

It was recently confirmed that the Owls have been hit with a three-window ban on paying transfer fees, after owner Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay the wages of players and staff on time in May, for the second time in three months.

Textor hasn’t got a clean record himself, as Lyon were provisionally relegated from Ligue 1 in November amid debts of £422 million, and the former French champions may still suffer that fate despite selling a number of players in the winter transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri ordered to sell up amid John Textor talk

Football League World’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, believes that a change of ownership must happen for the Owls, and he would welcome Textor, even if his past isn't perfect.

“The real and very current danger remains with Dejphon Chansiri,” Patrick told FLW. “Under him, the club is on life support.

“There is a real danger that if this continues, if it goes on as it is, the club may not be able to start the season. It may not exist. At the very best, the club gets relegated next season, and we have a few seasons in League 1. It is absolutely imperative that Chansiri lets go of the club and someone else takes it over.

“That is the bottom line. With the absolute mess he has made of the club, he is setting a pretty low bar in a way for any new owner. Any owner coming in doesn't have to have grand plans straight away.

“If we could get in an owner who can pay wages, who would have some idea how to raise revenue rather than milk fans with high and complicated ticket policies, that would be ideal. Someone who would introduce some sort of transfer policy and would essentially run us as a business.

“I would have absolutely no issues with John Textor taking over the club. Under him Crystal Palace have just won their first trophy in their history. As a businessman, does he have more new knowledge of the game than Chansiri? Yes.

“Ultimately, he would be an improvement. Would I trust him with the club more than Chansiri? Yes. However, it is hard to judge at this stage when it is also theoretical.

“Right now, Chansiri has to sell up and if this guy was to come in, I have no doubt he would be a better fit. My real concerns aren't with John Textor potentially taking over, the real concerns are with our current owner.”

Sheffield Wednesday must be sold, but to the right buyer

The current situation at Hillsborough needs addressing immediately, before the situation spirals into something that could seriously threaten the club’s existence.

Wednesday supporters want nothing more than for Chansiri to sell up, but it is imperative that someone that has the Steel City side’s best interest at heart.

It seems implausible that the Owls’ current owner remains in place, but the club must make sure they properly assess any potential buyers to avoid a scenario like this repeating itself.

There has been interest in the club’s ownership, with a Florida-based consortium fronted by the businessman John Flanagan and Sheffield-born Adam Shaw have made two bids for Wednesday, the first of which was submitted in April and subsequently dismissed by the club as 'derisory'.

The Athletic recently revealed that these bids were worth $65 million (£48 million) and $75 million (£55 million) respectively.
