AC Milan ‘reach agreement’ for Jean-Philippe Mateta as Forest risk missing out

Nottingham Forest risk missing out on Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, with AC Milan moving ahead as the deadline approaches, Gazzetta suggests.

Forest have already added one striker this month, Napoli loanee Lorenzo Lucca, but still want another before the window closes. They have registered their interest in Mateta and lodged at least one bid of 35 million for the 28-year-old.

Reports indicate Milan made significant progress overnight, striking an agreement with Palace on a fee. It is also said that Mateta would favour a switch to Milan over joining Forest.

The main hurdle is Palace granting approval for an immediate move, as they seek a replacement. A pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen is said to have stalled.

If approval does not arrive before Monday’s deadline, a summer move to Italy remains possible, and the odds are described as tilting towards Milan either way.

Forest have been light up front since Arnaud Kalimuendo left on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt, with Igor Jesus carrying much of the burden. He and Taiwo Awoniyi both scored in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Brentford.
