AC Milan have reached an agreement with Troyes to sign Rangers target Sankhoun Diawara, according to Foot Mercato.
The 20-year-old was reportedly on the verge of joining Rangers. However, Milan have hijacked the deal despite Rangers agreeing terms to sign the Frenchman.
The Serie A club have also agreed personal terms with Diawara, with only the final details remaining to be settled before finalising the deal.
They wanted the youngster in their first-team immediately, but Milan only have plans to add him to their under-23s.
Diawara secured promotion to Ligue 1 with Troyes at the end of last term after making 17 appearances across all competitions.
He has opted to join the European giants ahead of Rangers, and manager McInnes will have to move on to other targets.
He will be desperate to hit the ground running when the new season kicks off, and Rangers need an impressive summer transfer window.
They finished ten points behind title winners Celtic last term, while McInnes’ Hearts finished two points behind the Hoops after a 3-1 loss on the final day of the campaign.
McInnes will start the new season in the stands after being banned from the touchline for his first three domestic games as Rangers manager for his criticism of match officials.
