AC Milan are plotting a move for Lazio centre-back Mario Gila, Il Corriere dello Sport reports, with the Rossoneri aiming to strike a deal around €15 million.
The 25-year-old joined the Biancocelesti from Real Madrid in 2022. After a lengthy bedding-in period, he has become one of the most sought-after centre-backs in Italian football, despite a bumpy campaign capped by a Man-of-the-Match display against Sassuolo on Monday.
There have been no concrete steps towards an extension. Gila is under contract until June 2027 and is among the first team’s lowest earners on a little over €1 million.
It has been suggested Lazio did not even table a new deal, with Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani expecting a negative answer. A summer sale is widely viewed as difficult to avoid.
The report adds that Milan sporting director Igli Tare, who previously signed Gila for Lazio, wants to work with the Barcelona-born defender again.
That price is considered modest for his level, but Lazio face pressure from the contract timeline, otherwise they risk losing him for nothing a year later. The club would receive only half of any sale, as Real Madrid hold a 50% sell-on.
