AC Milan vs Bologna – Match Preview and Team News

  1. Date: 14th September, Sunday.
  2. Kick-off: 7:45pm BST.
  3. Venue: San Siro.

AC Milan Team News

AC Milan could hand a debut to recent signing Christopher Nkunku. The Rossoneri successfully secured Nkunku from Chelsea in a permanent £36 million deal, with the Frenchman keen to rebuild after a frustrating time in England.

Rafael Leao remains sidelined with a calf injury that was initially misdiagnosed as a minor strain. The Portuguese winger will miss Sunday’s match, with sources suggesting he could be out for approximately four weeks in total.

Santiago Gimenez is available and could lead the line for Milan. The former Feyenoord striker joined the club in February 2025 for approximately €35 million but has struggled to find consistent form.

Bologna Team News

Bologna face significant injury concerns with veteran striker Ciro Immobile ruled out for approximately eight weeks due to a thigh injury sustained in their opening match against Roma. Although his recovery might be earlier than first thought, the 35-year-old’s absence is a major blow to Vincenzo Italiano’s attacking options.

Nicolo Casale remains sidelined with a hamstring strain that is expected to keep him out for three to four weeks. Ibrahim Sulemana is currently injured with a knee problem, while Emil Holm may also be forced to join them in the treatment room.

Form

AC Milan: DLWLW

Allegri’s side has made a mixed start to the new Serie A season with one win and one defeat from their opening two matches. Milan currently sit 8th in the Serie A table, having scored three goals and conceded two in their first two fixtures. They secured an impressive away victory but suffered a disappointing home defeat to Cremonese.

Bologna: WWLLW

Bologna have also recorded one win and one loss in their opening Serie A matches, currently sitting 10th in the table. Under Vincenzo Italiano, the Rossoblù have shown glimpses of promise but consistency remains an issue. Notably, Bologna achieved their greatest success in recent years by winning the Coppa Italia final in May 2025, defeating Milan 1-0 to claim their first major trophy in 51 years.

Predicted Lineups

AC Milan: Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Musa, Fofana, Modric, Estupinan; Saelemaekers, Pulisic, Gimenez

Bologna: Skorupski; Zortea, Vitik, Heggem, Miranda; Freuler, Ferguson; Orsolini, Odgaard, Cambiaghi; Castro
