Santos received positive medical updates this week at CT Rei Pelé, as Adonis Frías and Zé Rafael advanced in their recoveries. Their progress could strengthen the squad for the weekend.
According to Diario Do Peixe, both have resumed on grass activities with the group, with Frías stepping up to ball work on Thursday, 19 February.
Frías is recovering from a right calf muscle injury diagnosed on five February after the clássico against São Paulo in the Brasileiro. He felt discomfort and was replaced at half-time. Until then he had started every Paulista match, seven appearances and 586 minutes this season.
Having completed his initial on-field transition, the Argentine has now trained with the squad using the ball. His progress could allow a return on Sunday against Grêmio Novorizontino at 16:00 at Estádio Jorge Ismael de Biasi in the Paulista quarter-finals.
Zé Rafael is treating patellar tendinitis in his left knee. On seven February he reported increased pain after sessions, which ruled him out against Noroeste and Velo Clube in the State competition, as well as Athletico-PR in the Brasileiro.
He has begun the transition phase with the physios and has also trained alongside the group. He has seven appearances this season, with one goal and one assist. The staff will monitor his response in the coming days to decide whether he can be included this weekend.
