AFCON 2025: Nkosinathi Sibisi talks about Bafana Bafana's goals in AFCON 2025 after the win over Angola!
Following the hard-fought 2-1 victory over Angola in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has spoken about the lofty dream that inspires the South African national team, emphasizing the delicate balance between ambition and realism within the squad.
Lyle Foster's late goal broke the deadlock, securing Bafana Bafana their first three points in Group B and relieving early pressure. This win has given the team breathing room ahead of two crucial upcoming matches: against Egypt on Friday and their neighbors Zimbabwe on December 29th.
Sibisi, who has become a cornerstone of the national team setup, outlined the team's philosophy, stating: "For us, we are taking each game as it comes. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but we have the bigger picture in mind. We know our desire is to win the AFCON for our people, for the country, for ourselves, for our families."
The Orlando Pirates defender further emphasized the importance of internal unity, adding: "So for us, it's about continuing to work hard. We have a very solid group, and the unity within the group, I believe, is what carries us through every tournament or every match we play. So, our goal is to maintain this cohesion, keep working hard, and of course, the results will follow."
The 30-year-old Sibisi acknowledged that the opening victory was crucial in setting the right tone, explaining: "Winning the first match was essential for a proper start. This opening win helps us avoid pressure in the second and third matches. For now, we feel a bit more relaxed, but we cannot become complacent."
He concluded by reiterating the team's pragmatic approach: "We are taking the results as they come."
With confidence growing in Hugo Broos's camp and on the streets of South Africa, it appears that Bafana Bafana are skillfully blending humility in their step-by-step approach with the boldness to envision a glorious ending on the podium of champions.
