At 18, winger Shane Kluivert produced an assist in a Barcelona friendly last week, the youngest son of Patrick now trying to launch his own career after Justin and Ruben.

According to L'Équipe, he started the opening warm-up against third-tier Europa on 24 July and set up Hector Fort in a 4-1 win.

Hansi Flick then included him among several La Masia prospects for a training camp in central England, and he featured against Birmingham City on Friday night, a 2-2 draw lost 2-3 on penalties.

He recently extended a contract that had been due to expire on 30 June, nudging him nearer the first team, though possible arrivals such as Anthony Gordon or Karim Adeyemi could reduce his time on the left.

Questions over nepotism surround him. His route has included advantages, from a short stint in PSG’s academy while Patrick was briefly football director in 2016-2017 to a lucrative Nike deal at nine, alongside Patrick and Justin, and 120,000 Instagram followers at that age.

Born in Zaandam, he has also shown ability, earning uninterrupted Netherlands youth call-ups from under-16 level. He curled in a superb strike in a 2-1 Youth League win against PSG last October, then hit a decisive brace in a 4-3 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt weeks later.

His rise comes 28 years after Patrick joined Barcelona, for whom he scored 122 in 257 between 1998 and 2004. A senior role this season still feels some way off.
