Liam Delap spoke a little earlier today about his existing relationships at Chelsea.

He knows manager Enzo Maresca and a few others from the Man City youth system – most importantly, he’s known Cole Palmer since he was 15. That should fast track their understanding on the field.

But what else can we expect from the bustling centre-forward at Chelsea? In an chat with the club’s official website he tried to outline what his game was like.

Delap explains his style of play

“I showed last year that I love those battles, and I always have since I was a kid. I’ve always had that edge as a kid, and I’m not going to change the way my mindset is. You have to be aggressive, you have to be on the front foot at all times,” the former Ipswich striker said.

“I love the aggressive side of it and the competitive nature of the sport. It has to be controlled, but it’s my game, and I really enjoy that side. I might be a little more old school, but it’s how I’ve always played and I don’t want to change that.”

We’ve really enjoyed that side of his game so far. In just two pretty short appearances he’s already showed what he’s all about – using his strength and work rate to unsettle defenders, putting pressure on and looking to drive towards goal.

Delap prepared for battle with strike rival

Tonight Delap has a clear run at a start with Nicolas Jackson suspended. But it won’t always be that easy, as the England youth striker understands:

“With the size of the club, there’s always going to be competition, and I think players thrive off that. You want to work that little bit harder. This is Chelsea, it is going to be competitive and that’s something I relish.”
