Claudio Echeverri says City legend and fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero helped him make the decision to move to Manchester.
The 19-year-old signed for the Club in January 2024, but was loaned back to River Plate to help continue his development.
Now in Manchester and ready to continue his progression in the Premier League, Echeverri joins an elite list of sublime Argentine talent to have played in sky blue.
And the attacking midfielder, who starred for his nation at the recent Under-20 South American Championship, detailed how a City and Argentina legend played an important role in his decision to join the Club.
“I’ve spoken to [Sergio] Aguero,” began Echeverri.
“I also talked to Martin Demichelis. They told me it [City] was a great club with amazing players and a beautiful history.
“I knew about it [the special relationship between Argentina and Manchester City]. Aguero, in particular, stands out.
“He’s a legend here at Manchester City because of everything he achieved and the incredible player he was.
“I used to watch him play and, honestly, it’s an amazing feeling to be here.”
Echeverri will become the 12th Argentinian to join the Club, following in the footsteps of many great players who have also helped City break records and stamp our mark in football history.
Throughout the years, we have seen the likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Carlos Tevez, Aguero, Willy Caballero, Nicolas Otamendi, Demichelis, Maximo Perrone and Julian Alvarez all win silverware at the Etihad.
And despite his tender age, the teenager is ready to take on the challenge of helping City break new ground, honouring those who have done it prior.
“Yes I think so,” said Echeverri when asked if he feels City has a special reputation in Argentina.
“Especially because of the players who have come here and done really well – Kun Aguero, Julian Alvarez, [Pablo] Zabaleta.
“They are all very important players who have played here.
“I’m at a great club with a lot of history.”
