Agustín Almendra to join Necaxa as Racing agree sale | OneFootball

Agustín Almendra will leave Racing after two and a half years to join Necaxa. The 25-year-old will sign a three-season contract in a deal worth about 2.5 million dollars.

According to SuperDepor.com, Racing plan to move for Matko Miljevic, who is viewed as the leading option to replace him in midfield. Necaxa finished in the lower part of the Liga MX table.

Almendra was close to departing in mid-2025, when his former Boca coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto tried to take him to Vélez for the final phase of the Copa Libertadores.

Having been a substitute through the first half of the year, he nearly joined Vélez, but stayed after the club improved his deal at coach Gustavo Costas' request.

His second half of the year in Avellaneda was not outstanding and he now heads to Mexico. He arrived in April 2023 from Boca on a free transfer.

Since then he has played 102 matches and scored six goals, winning the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and the 2025 Recopa Sudamericana. A key issue has been how few games he finished, starting 77 of those 102 but completing only six.
