Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen spoke highly of his former club, Inter Milan, during the press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash in Amsterdam.
According to FCInterNews, the veteran star named the Nerazzurri a ‘top club’ and reminisced about his time at San Siro with fondness.
Inter Milan and Ajax will lock horns in their opening Champions League fixture tomorrow.
Johan Cruyff Arena forms the backdrop for the first meeting between the two European giants since 2006.
Meanwhile, it will be a special occasion for Davy Klaassen.
Indeed, the 32-year-old spent the 2023/24 season at Inter before returning to his boyhood club Ajax last summer.
Though his stint at San Siro was brief, it was hugely successful.
Klaassen was part of Simone Inzaghi’s side that won the Scudetto and Supercoppa Italiana trophies.
However, he played a bit-part role in Inzaghi’s system, amassing just 18 appearances in all competitions.
Despite his limited playing time, Klaassen is proud of his short-term spell in Milan.

“It’s hard to say if we’re further along compared to last year,” Klaassen said. “It’s always difficult with a new coaching staff and new players.
“We’re a team still in the middle of reconstruction,” he added.
Then, he remembered his days at Inter Milan.
“I had a fantastic year there,” he continued. “I’m happy to see everyone again. Now they have a new coach, but the group has known each other for a long time.
“The players are the same, they’re well-drilled. They’re one of the best teams in the world.
“They’ve been repeating certain patterns for years, they’re consistent, they’re mature.
“That’s what makes them so strong. There are slight differences in their play, but I still notice familiar things compared to the past.”
Finally, he admitted that Inter’s visit doesn’t scare him.
“I’m a positive person, but also a realist: we’re not yet where we want to be. Does Inter come too soon? Not for me.”
