Al Hilal: an Al Ittihad legend blasts Karim Benzema
Karim Benzema signed with Al Hilal during this winter transfer window. But the Frenchman's move is viewed poorly at Al Ittihad.
Arriving this winter at Al Hilal from Al Ittihad, Karim Benzema has already changed scenery, leaving the reigning Saudi Pro League champions for the current league leaders. This transfer to a direct rival has been hard to swallow in Saudi Arabia. Mohammed Noor, a true Al Ittihad legend who played for the club from 1994 to 2013 and again from 2014 to 2016, did not appreciate the Frenchman's decision. On the show Dawrina Gher, Mohammed Noor took aim at Karim Benzema.
“The first season Benzema arrived at Al Ittihad, what did he actually do? He did nothing, right? And the following season? He tore it up. Who was really supporting him? Who was encouraging him? How many penalties did he miss with Al Ittihad? After his first season, he missed five or six penalties. And what did the supporters do? They backed him. They supported the whole team, and we won the league and the cup. Am I right or not? And after all that, now you come in the middle of the season and tell me you don’t want to play for this team anymore? But who are you, really? With all due respect for the career he’s had, what does he have that Ronaldo doesn’t? We don’t even mention him in the same breath. He’s nobody.” he declared.
