Despite Roma going the extra mile to sign Crysencio Summerville, Al-Hilal surpassed them near the finish line by offering a gargantuan amount of money. The winger took some time before deciding whether to go to Saudi Arabia, but he eventually accepted.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi believe they have finally convinced West Ham with a €50M package and had booked the flight to get him from the Netherlands. They had come to terms with him on a roughly €4M salary.

Just as Roma were ready to take care of the formalities of the Summerville deal, Al-Hilal made their move. The winger didn’t sign off right away. Gian Piero Gasperini and Donyell Malen spoke to him to convince him to move to the Italian capital, but it was in vain. Per Fabrizio Romano (via SOSFanta), the Simone Inzaghi-led franchise will pay more than €60M plus €10M add-ons. The attacker will earn at least triple what he would have in Italy.

The Giallorossi will have to regroup. One of their main fail-safe has fallen through as well. Aston Villa are finalizing a loan with an almost guaranteed obligation to buy for Alejandro Garnacho.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the capital club will focus on Antonio Nusa now. He’ll be equally expensive. Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup and Koln’s Said El Mala trail him in the pecking order.

Al-Hilal’s offer is bonkers, so there’s not much the Giallorossi could have done there, other than being quicker and stealthier in the talks, instead of leaking everything to keep their fans quiet. It might not be a negative, though. Even if he had a great World Cup, that kind of disbursement was more warranted in Mason Greenwood’s case.
