Al-Ittihad have officially revived their ambitious pursuit of Mohamed Salah following the winger’s shock departure announcement.
The Saudi Pro League side previously saw a £150 million bid rejected for the 33-year-old in September 2023. As per ESPN, the Jeddah-based giants are now working to make Salah the new face of their project.
Al-Ittihad desperately needs to fill a massive talismanic void after their star striker Karim Benzema’s controversial transfer to rivals Al-Hilal in February 2026. Currently sitting sixth domestically, they view Salah as the ultimate catalyst for a resurgence.
Salah confirmed his imminent departure on Tuesday. He will officially leave Anfield at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
Despite signing a previous extension, a mutual agreement has now been reached. Liverpool have reportedly allowed him to leave on a free transfer.
This exit strategy honours Salah’s legendary nine-year service on Merseyside. Remarkably, he has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances.
This incredible tally places him third on the club’s all-time scoring list. Ultimately, his departure marks the end of a historic era. It delivered eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles.
Recently, Salah’s elite form has dipped slightly. This led to a public fallout after a recent benching. He accused the club of throwing him “under the bus” in an explosive outburst.
Moreover, these escalating tensions with manager Arne Slot have likely accelerated his exit. He now desires a fresh challenge abroad this summer.
Meanwhile, financial rivals Al-Qadsiah pose the only immediate threat. They remain the sole Saudi club capable of challenging Al Ittihad’s lucrative offer.
Conversely, sources indicate that Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, and Al-Ahli are not actively monitoring the situation.
Salah leaves behind a modern legacy in English football. However, his next destination promises to reshape the Saudi Pro League landscape.
Al-Ittihad desperately need a transformative superstar to reclaim their dominance. Securing the Egyptian icon would undoubtedly signal a massive global statement of intent.
