The Baggies’ inability to convert possession into goals took its toll once again and they suffered back-to-back defeats which has somewhat spoiled their impressive start. The one positive of the night was that Aune Heggebø scored his first league goal in an Albion shirt.

No Albion side has scored fewer than seven goals in their opening six second tier games since Gary Megson’s team in his first full season had managed just four at the same stage in 2000/01.

Looking ahead to next week, the Baggies haven’t lost their seventh match in the second tier when it has been at the Hawthorns since 1993 when Alan Smith’s Crystal Palace side won 4-1 with goals from Chris Coleman, David Whyte, Gareth Southgate and Chris Armstrong.
