Away from the spotlight, Gaizka Alboniga-Menor underlined his rise in Athletic Club's midfield pathway with a hat-trick for CD Basconia. As reported by as.com, the 2005-born midfielder is steering the second reserve side with a clear tactical profile.
At midday on Sunday in Artunduaga, he struck three in a 6-4 win over Alfaro, with winger Conde scoring twice and Diego Fernández adding the other.
Comfortable across midfield, even on the left interior, he has five goals in 18 Segunda Federación games for Bittor Llopis's team. He often arrives decisively into the box from the mid-block, a valued trait in the modern game.
The Biscayan has been in Lezama since Alevín C after joining from Lauaxeta, scoring nine in Juvenil de Honor and six last term as Basconia won promotion. Newly 21, he has two Primera Federación outings for Bilbao Athletic, before settling with Basconia for more minutes.
Lezama's promising midfield group also features Mikel Jauregizar and Alejandro Rego with the first team, Peio Canales with Spain under-21 on loan at Racing, Beñat Gerenabarrena at Castellón, Selton Sánchez with the first team and Spain under-19, and Beñat García Goñi returning from a hamstring issue.
