Owing to their need to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, Manchester United are mulling over selling academy wonderkids in this window as their sale would constitute pure profit in the club’s books.
INEOS have tried moving on the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony just to name a few but permanent exits are not expected for any of them, which is why the co-owners have been forced to take drastic action.
Alejandro Garancho seems the most sellable asset at the moment with United slapping a €80 million price tag on him amid interest from the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli.
Initially it was reported that the 20-year-old had no intention of jumping ship so soon after signing a new long-term deal. However, Ruben Amorim’s arrival seems to have played a part in changing the winger’s mind.
The Portuguese had dropped him from the Manchester derby squad and since then, the 20-year-old has managed only one start, prompting a rethink on the player’s part.
The new coach prefers attacking midfielders instead of wingers up front and his style involves keeping the ball instead of looking to play on the break, a system in which the Argentina international thrives.
He had demanded a lot of hard work, especially out of possession, from the Argentina international and as per Talksport, Garnacho does not feel he fits Amorim’s style which is why he is seriously considering leaving this January.
“Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Manchester United increasingly looks in doubt as the January transfer window grinds on.
“Sources close to the mercurial Argentine have told talkSPORT he has major doubts about his role in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system. Those concerns first emerged after being brutally axed for the Manchester derby in December.
“Manchester United are not actively looking to sell Garnacho, but his worries over his role at Old Trafford have opened the door to a possible January exit.”
Napoli are favourites for his signature with the Serie A side seeing two bids get rejected. Antonio Conte’s men are eyeing a discount and are even offering Victor Osimhen on the cheap should United relent/
It will be sad to see Garnacho, tipped to become a superstar at Old Trafford, leave so soon but it seems United’s PSR concerns have finally caught up with them with the Carrington graduate forced to pay the ultimate price.
