Alex Scott rejects new Bournemouth deal amid Arsenal interest

Alex Scott has rejected a new contract at Bournemouth amid strong interest from several Premier League clubs.

The Cherries made tying the England Under-21 midfielder to fresh terms a summer priority, but no agreement has been reached. As things stand, the 22-year-old has turned down the offer on the table.

His decision has emboldened his suitors. Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea are all keen, with United, Arsenal and Chelsea regarded as the frontrunners. The BBC reported in June that Arsenal had an approach for Scott rejected by Bournemouth.

Bournemouth, however, remain steadfast. According to the BBC, the club have insisted publicly, to the player and to interested clubs that Scott is not for sale, even if he stays on his current deal. They expect him to remain on the south coast next season regardless.

Their position is backed by financial strength. Bournemouth have qualified for the Europa League and banked significant income last summer through the sales of Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi and Dango Ouattara. They are under no pressure to sell.

Scott’s contract situation is central to the standoff. The former Bristol City man, who cost £25m in 2023, has two years left on his deal. Reports suggest any new terms could include a release clause, potentially setting an exit on Bournemouth’s own terms.

His valuation reflects his rising stock. Bournemouth are understood to rate Scott at around £80m, a figure that has climbed after an outstanding campaign and a place in England’s pre-World Cup squad.

New boss Marco Rose is keen to keep him, viewing the midfielder as central to his plans. Bournemouth’s determination to retain Scott forms part of a wider approach to holding onto their best young talent.

The stance mirrors that taken with others. Bournemouth have adopted a similar line over forward Eli Junior Kroupi, wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham, and Brazilian winger Rayan, who only joined in January and is not expected to leave.
