Alexander Isak has dropped a massive exit hint as Newcastle United do what they can to keep him. Liverpool are positioned to capitalise.

It's not a secret to anyone that Liverpool want to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. The Swede was the most impressive striker in the Premier League last season, helping the Magpies to UEFA Champions League football once again.

Liverpool most certainly want to sign a striker this summer, hoping to improve on what Darwin Nunez brought last season. Hugo Ekitike is a part of that - but there's a sense that the Reds want both the Frenchman and Isak.

They certainly have the funds for it. Liverpool have spent relatively frugally over the last few years, with last summer being a fine example.

The club made a comfortable profit before winning the Premier League, leaving them with significant PSR room. Add the fact that the likes of Nunez should leave and suddenly mega-moves are very possible.

Alexander Isak's exit hint

Isak is under contract until 2028 but Newcastle want to extend that. If they don't, they'll almost certainly need to sell in a year's time while his value remains sky-high.

But in what we're taking as enormous hint, Isak's demands are making things difficult. TalkSport claims he's asked for £300k per week in order to renew at Newcastle.

Per Capology, the most Newcastle pay anyone is £160k. Isak is effectively asking for double what anyone else is on - a demand that the Magpies will struggle to meet.

Of course, Isak knows that. These are not the demands of someone looking to renew their contract but the demands of someone making a point.

It's been reported that the Swede wants to leave Newcastle, if not this summer then the next. He's after a move to a club chasing the biggest trophies, something his current employers can't currently offer.

If they want him to give up on that and stay? Well, it'll cost an enormous amount of money - an amount we can't imagine he'd ask of the likes of Liverpool.

Ultimately, we can't imagine Newcastle will pay Isak that and it piles a lot of pressure on them for the next month. They don't want to lose their star player - but these demands tell them they will.

Whether it's this summer or the next.
