Marcelo Bielsa has unveiled a preliminary squad of 35 players ahead of Uruguay’s upcoming international window. La Celeste will face England on March 27 before crossing paths with Algeria on March 31, two friendly matches that will serve as a test for the Argentine manager.

The main surprise on this extended list is the return of goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. At 39 years old, the experienced shot-stopper, absent since the 2022 World Cup, could make a comeback for the Uruguayan national team. With more than 130 caps, the former Galatasaray player brings valuable experience to a squad already featuring mainstays like Federico Valverde, Ronald Araújo, Darwin Núñez, and Manuel Ugarte.

This preliminary squad is expected to evolve in the coming days. Bielsa will have to trim the group before finalizing his squad for the two matches, while several notable absentees—such as Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Torreira, and Miguel Merentiel—are already fueling debate around the Uruguayan selection.
