All-time PL top scorers: Salah overtakes Cole and pursues Rooney | OneFootball

Mohamed Salah is already a part of Premier League history and continues to chase even more milestones. With his goal in the victory over Burnley, the Liverpool striker surpassed Andrew Cole in the scoring charts.

Salah now has a total of 188 goals in the Premier League, one more than Cole, a multi-champion with Manchester United and the top scorer of the 1993/94 season while at Newcastle United.

Salah, who had an unsuccessful stint at Chelsea, scored almost all of his Premier League goals after joining Liverpool in the 2017/18 season. He has scored 247 goals for the Reds in all competitions in total, lifting two Premier League titles and one Champions League during his stint so far.

Currently fourth in the historical scorers' table of the Premier League era, Salah might catch up to the records of Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane within this season. However, Alan Shearer's record remains a distant dream.

What does Salah need to take the top spot?

Salah is 20 goals behind Rooney in the list of Premier League's top scorers. It's not an easy target for the current season, but the Reds' striker only needs to replicate last year's performance to reach the podium: he scored 29 goals in 2024/25. In the first four games of this year's English championship, the Egyptian has already bagged two goals.

Harry Kane is second on the list with 213 goals, 25 ahead of Salah. Again, if he can at least match last season's numbers, the Liverpool player will finish ahead of the former rival, currently at Bayern Munich and unable to increase his tally at the moment.

As for Alan Shearer's record, it remains out of reach... at least in the short term.

Shearer has 260 goals in the Premier League era, 72 more than Salah. The best tally for the Reds' striker in the Premier League is 32 goals, in 2017/18. Even at this extraordinary pace, the Liverpool man would need three seasons to get there. A distant target for the 33-year-old scorer but one he is surely capable of given time.
