Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso faced the media ahead of his team’s away fixture against Getafe, sharing updates on player fitness, team morale, and the club’s stance on current issues surrounding La Liga.

The manager began by reassuring fans about the condition of players returning from international duty, confirming that everyone is fit and ready to compete. He stated,

“Everyone who played with the national team has returned well and trained well both yesterday and today.”

Alonso also took a firm stance on the controversial idea of holding a La Liga fixture in Miami, insisting that Real Madrid strongly opposes it.

He explained that the proposal goes against the principles of fair competition and transparency, saying,

“We are against it because it distorts competition. There has been no consultation, no unanimity, and the protests are positive because they reflect the feelings of many clubs.”

Praise for Asencio and return of Mendy

With Real Madrid’s defence still weakened by the absence of Dean Huijsen, Antonio Rudiger, Dani Carvajal, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alonso singled out Raul Asencio for praise, acknowledging the youngster’s composure and competitiveness.

The manager said, “He’s really good in aerial duels. This season, when he’s had to play, he’s done really well.

“He’s competitive, like many players from La Fabrica. The bad feeling from the Club World Cup is now behind him and everyone else.”

Speaking about the team’s defensive options, Alonso also welcomed the return of Ferland Mendy, who has recovered from his injury. Highlighting the flexibility Mendy provides, he said,

“Mendy’s return is very good news, and hopefully he won’t suffer a relapse. It opens up another possibility for us with the three fullbacks. We’ve done it in the past and we can do it again.”

Updates on Ceballos, Mbappe, and Rodrygo

When asked about Dani Ceballos, who is ruled out for the Getafe clash, and his evolving role in the team, Alonso expressed confidence in what the midfielder brings to his system. He commented,

“I knew Dani very well. What he’s giving us is what I knew he would give.

He has to be cautious, but I was very clear about what he could offer us with his different characteristics. He won’t be there tomorrow.”

On Kylian Mbappe’s fitness, Alonso offered a positive update, revealing that the Frenchman is ready to feature against Getafe.

He confirmed, “His ankle is fine. He will be in the squad and could start, yes.”

Addressing Rodrygo’s new role for Brazil, where he featured as an attacking midfielder, Alonso didn’t rule out trying something similar at Real Madrid. He said,

“I watched Brazil’s game. Militao’s too, let’s not forget. We were able to use Rodrygo in that position, where he did very well against Korea. It’s a possibility we can consider for the future.”

When asked about Endrick and Gonzalo Garcia, Alonso made it clear that departures in January are not being considered at this stage. He explained,

“Right now, it’s not on my mind. Both are ready to play in a position with very good competition.”

Finally, the Real Madrid boss spoke about Jude Bellingham, who has now fully recovered. Alonso said he expects the midfielder to return stronger than ever, noting,

“Jude has been training and preparing longer since his shoulder surgery. We need the best Jude.

He’s eager to play well and make his teammates play well. I see him happy in training,” he concluded.
