FC Bayern is a regular in the Champions League – which is why this decision is interesting for all FCB fans: everything is about to change when it comes to the TV rights for the premier league. Anyone who wants to watch the record champions live will soon have to pay for even more subscriptions.
UEFA has reallocated the Champions League TV rights for the period 2027/28 to 2030/31 – and the result is a real revolution for soccer fans in Germany. According to information from BILD, the rights will go entirely to two US companies for the first time: Paramount+ and Amazon. Neither DAZN nor Sky – both long-standing bidders and holders of the Bundesliga rights – were awarded the rights.
The distribution of matches will be significantly different in future: the top match on Tuesday will be shown on Paramount+, while Amazon will take over the top match on Wednesday – the streaming service previously showed the Tuesday top match.
All other games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will also be broadcast by Paramount+.
For fans, this means that if you want to watch the Bundesliga and Champions League live in full, you will need four subscriptions from 2027 – Sky, DAZN, Paramount+ and Amazon.
Particularly explosive: According to BILD, the Champions League final will not be shown on free TV in future, but on Netflix. However, there will be an exception: If a German club is in the final, UEFA could force a free TV broadcast. A final decision on this is still pending.
DAZN has at least been awarded the Europa League and the Conference League, meaning it will remain represented in the European Cup.
For Bayern fans, the change is drastic: the Champions League will probably be significantly more expensive and certainly more complicated to follow for fans of the German record champions.
