Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during his side's 4-1 World Cup Round of 16 victory over the United States, dealing a major blow to both the Red Devils and Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old was forced off in the first half after injuring his knee in a collision with U.S. defender Antonee Robinson. Belgium boss Rudi Garcia revealed after the match that the injury is likely to end Onana's tournament, with subsequent reports confirming the midfielder has ruptured his ACL.

Despite losing one of their key midfielders early, Belgium produced an impressive display to eliminate the United States and book a quarterfinal meeting with Spain. Charles De Ketelaere scored twice, while Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku also found the net in the convincing victory.

An ACL rupture typically sidelines players for several months, meaning Onana now faces a lengthy rehabilitation as Belgium continue their World Cup campaign without one of their most influential midfielders.
