Liverpool have been given amazing injury news.
Injuries have played a major role in shaping the club's season and it would be misleading to overlook their influence. While there are certainly other issues that have contributed to the club’s struggles, the constant disruption caused by player absences has had a significant impact on performances and results.
The problem is not purely the number of injuries Liverpool have suffered, but the calibre of the players unavailable and the extended periods they have spent on the sidelines. Losing key figures for long stretches has repeatedly interrupted momentum, weakened consistency, and prevented the squad from developing rhythm across the campaign.
Arne Slot has been particularly unfortunate in this respect. Just as players have appeared close to returning, fresh setbacks have emerged, leaving him unable to select a settled starting XI for any meaningful period of time.
This instability has been especially damaging in attacking areas, where understanding and chemistry are essential to maintaining fluid performances.
As a result, injuries are in danger of defining Liverpool’s entire season. The absence of influential players has contributed heavily to their decline in the table and left the team performing well below the expectations many supporters held before the campaign began.
There is little doubt Liverpool would be in a far stronger position had a fully fit Alexander Isak been available throughout the season.
Likewise, the prolonged absences of Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong have forced Slot into difficult tactical compromises, including deploying Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back on several occasions.
Liverpool are still in the running for the Champions League thanks to some sort of miracle. It's unfathomable how the Reds are still in this position when they have lost as many games as they have this season.
But somehow they are hanging on and they are looking to confirm their place in Europe's elite competition.
A good way to start would be a victory against Chelsea, and they have been given some amazing news ahead of that massive showdown.
Closing out the season, it felt like Liverpool were back to full strength again. Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak were both fit finally at the same time, until the former got an injury.
And then Isak was dealt a setback as well, which meant Cody Gakpo was forced to play as a no.9 against Manchester United, with Will Wright being Slot's only recognised no.9 on the bench.
Now thankfully against Chelsea this is going to be different.
Isak is back training after his injury set-back and he is expected to be available for selection for the game on Saturday. Whether he is going to be available to start the game remains to be seen.
But just the sheer fact that he has returned from injury is amazing news. It's exactly the boost Slot needed to close out the season and ensure those Champions League spots.
