Ruben Amorim says Man Utd are “improving” and “need to focus on the future” after Cristiano Ronaldo said the current state of the club makes him “sad”.
In an interview with Piers Morgan this week, the former United and Real Madrid star said that the manager is “doing his best” but can’t work miracles as the club has no “structure”.
“I’m sad, because the club is one of the most important clubs in the world – and a club that I still have in my heart – because of the obvious reasons you have to follow with intelligent people, smart people, to create a base for the future as Manchester United,” Ronaldo said.
“So Manchester United right now, they don’t have a structure. I hope that changes in the present-future, because the potential of the club is amazing. It’s one of the most important clubs of the century.”
He added: “But we have all to be honest and look for ourselves and say, listen, they are not on a good path, so they need to change. And it’s not only about the coach and players, in my opinion.”
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Spurs, Amorim responded: “Of course, he knows he has huge impact on everything he says.
“But what we need to focus on is in future. We know as a club we made a lot of mistakes in the past. We are trying to change that.
“Let’s not focus on what happened. We need to focus on the future. Let’s focus on the way we are doing things.
“We are changing a lot of things, the structure, the way we want the players to behave, we are improving. Let’s forget a little bit the past.”
