The game will be Liam Rosenior’s first in charge of the club after he was confirmed as Chelsea’s new head coach on Tuesday.

Chelsea haven’t won a domestic cup since they lifted the FA Cup under Antonio Conte in 2018, which is far too long considering the stature of the club.

The FA Cup once again represents a very good chance of silverware, and one of the criticisms of last season were the early exits in the domestic competitions.

Rosenior has spoken about how he wants to be a winning Chelsea manager, so taking the cup competitions seriously is of paramount importance.

It will be interesting to see what team Rosenior selects against Charlton, but one player who could line up is Chalobah, and he’s revealed what the new head coach has said to the players.

‘Liam has spoken about what he’s about, what he likes to see, and what he wants from us in terms of how he wants to play, and it’s an exciting time,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“The players are up for it.”

FA Cup special for Chelsea centre back

The FA Cup holds a special place in Chalobah’s heart as it was the first trophy he won back in 2018, and he feels Saturday’s game will be special.

“The FA Cup holds such a special place in my heart,” he added.

“That was my first trophy, and you never forget that.

“It will be a special game on Saturday against Charlton. It’s another chance to progress in a trophy that we would like to win.

“And with the new head coach, it’s an opportunity to show our style, our way of playing and get back to winning ways – no matter what team we’re playing.”
