It is no secret that Manchester City were suffering from an injury crisis before the international break began. Six players missed City’s 2-1 loss to Brighton last weekend. Earlier this week five City players withdrew from international duty due to their injuries and fitness concerns. The had been that the international break would give the injured Manchester City players time to recover from their injuries. Now a new report has emerged which lays out the City injury situation more clearly.

Manchester City’s injury situation becomes clearer.

Sam Lee has provided an update on Manchester City’s injury situation for the Athletic. In the case of Kyle Walker Lee reports that City’s captain is working his way towards full fitness. It has been clear, based on Kyle Walker’s recent performances, that he isn’t fully fit. A busy summer and a lack of pre-season training has looked to have caught up to City’s captain.

Lee has also provided an update on Manchester City’s four injured centre-backs. In the case of Manuel Akanji, Lee reports that he isn’t expected to miss any more games following the international break. Akanji has been suffering due to the amount of games he has been forced to play. Ruben Dias is on the comeback trail from a calf injury Lee adds. The hope is that Dias can return after the international break. It is also included in Lee’s report that the foot injury suffered by John Stones isn’t thought to be too serious. There is, however, concern over Nathan Ake. Lee reports that Ake is expected to be out longer than City’s other defenders after picking up a hamstring injury.

Lee reports that Jeremy Doku has suffered a thigh injury after recently recovering from a separate issue. Lastly, Lee reports that the situation surrounding Jack Grealish is still up in the air as he recovers from an undisclosed injury issue.

It does appear that there may be light at the end of the tunnel for Manchester City.

Based on Sam Lee’s report there does appear to be light at the end of the tunnel for Manchester City. The champions have lost their past four games in all competitions before the international break began. Fatigue and injuries have hit City’s squad hard in recent weeks.

In the case of City’s defenders, it does appear that John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Ruben Dias have a chance to return against Tottenham. That would be a massive boost to Pep Guardiola and his team. City’s defence has struggled in recent weeks without a host of defenders. If Stones, Dias and Akanji can return it will boost City’s defence.

The update on Nathan Ake is a concern. With a fresh hamstring injury to overcome it appears that Ake is struggling to overcome his fitness issues. Manchester City need the Dutch international fit but perhaps he needs time to overcome that issue.

The situation surrounding Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku is still up in the air. Doku could be set for a spell on the sidelines as he recovers from a thight injury. The hope is that Doku’s injury isn’t too serious. Jack Grealish returned to training before the international break. He was withdrawn from the England squad earlier this week so the hope is that he can return after the international break.

Manchester City’s injury situation has now become clearer thanks to Sam Lee’s report. The hope is that a host of City’s players can return when they take on Tottenham at the Etihad once domestic football returns.
