Ana Vitória delighted with Brazil call-up, explains return to Corinthians

The Corinthians women's squad had several players called up for the March FIFA window. One of the athletes selected to represent her country was the midfielder Ana Vitória, 25, who celebrated her return to the Brazil Women's National Team.

“It’s always a happy moment when we have the opportunity to be here with the Brazilian National Team. This is the dream of all of us since we were children. I was very sad when I was cut from the Copa América, but that’s in the past. I’m here again and I’m very happy about it,” said Ana Vitória in an interview with CBF TV, highlighting the pride of wearing the Amarelinha jersey.

Signed by Corinthians in January after leaving Atlético de Madrid, the midfielder returned to the São Paulo club, where she had already played between 2017 and 2018, after spending seven seasons in European football. She explained that her return to Brazil was motivated not only by sporting reasons, but also by personal and cultural factors.

“Being back in Brazil is something very special. I left very young, at 18. It was a very good experience, it was an opportunity I needed to take. But there came a time when I missed our country, our culture. We start playing football because we really love it, and I think Brazilians have a special way of being happy playing football,” added the player.

The first match for the Brazilian national team during this FIFA window will be this Friday, when Brazil faces Costa Rica at the Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium in Alajuela. Despite the short preparation period, Ana Vitória expressed confidence in the group’s preparation.

“The expectation is good. We’ve been training well. Even though it’s a short training period, we had three days to prepare and with the videos and explanations on the field, everything is becoming very clear,” concluded the midfielder.

In total, Corinthians had ten athletes called up by South American national teams during this international window. For the Brazilian National Team, besides Ana Vitória, Lelê, Thaís Ferreira, Tamires, Duda Sampaio, Gabi Zanotti, and Jaqueline were also called up. Full-back Gi Fernandes had been called up but was cut due to injury.

Other Timão players will also be representing their national teams during this period. Midfielder Dayana Rodríguez will play for Venezuela, while Belén Aquino was called up by Uruguay and Gisela Robledo will join the Colombian national team during the series of international friendlies.
