No matter what they say, every attacking player is desperate to score when they join a new club - and Fábio Carvalho got off the mark in spectacular fashion for Brentford on Tuesday night.

Signed from Liverpool in the summer, the attacking midfielder stepped up to the plate to equalise for the Bees after Thomas Frank's had fallen a goal behind to Leyton Orient in their Carabao Cup third-round clash at Gtech Community Stadium.

Trailing to Brandon Cooper's 11th-minute goal, Brentford needed a spark and Carvalho provided it - his instinctive acrobatics following O's goalkeeper Josh Keeley's save from Kevin Schade stunning the League One visitors and delighting the home fans in attendance.

It was a special moment, which showcased Carvalho's undoubted quality, and the 22-year-old wasn't done yet - his two assists for Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Nørgaard helped Brentford secure a 3-1 win and safe passage into the next round of the competition.

Carvalho finished the game with a man-of-the-match Playmaker rating of 9.1, and his all-round display will have delighted his manager and Brentford fans.

In addition to his goal and two assists, Carvalho played more key passes (4) than any player on the pitch on Tuesday and his involvement in the game was underscored by his 67 touches during the encounter.

The Portugal Under-21 international also swung in two accurate crosses and posted an 85 per cent pass completion percentage.

With Yoane Wissa ruled out for a lengthy spell following his injury against Man City last weekend, Carvalho's attacking verve will be needed in the coming weeks and he afterwards backed himself to provide more spectacular moments in a Brentford shirt.

Talking about his first goal for the Bees, Carvalho said:

“I’ve done it in training but not in a game!

"It’s about getting in the right areas at the right time and luckily it fell to me. I know I’ve got the ability to do things like that.”
