On Monday, Carlo Ancelotti named Brazil's 26-man World Cup squad, leaving Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza out of the final list.
According to Meu Timao, the Italy coach said experience shaped his choices, selecting Alisson of Liverpool, Ederson of Fenerbahçe and Weverton of Grêmio as his goalkeepers.
He explained that in positions such as goalkeeper he prioritised experience, citing Weverton, and added that these are players already tested, whose value is known and who are accustomed to the competition.
Hugo Souza had four call-ups during this World Cup cycle, all under Ancelotti. He was not on the main list for March's only FIFA window this year, but came in when Alisson withdrew injured.
Ancelotti expressed sympathy for those omitted, naming Bento and Hugo Souza, and said they are young and will have the opportunity to be involved in the next World Cup project. He has extended his contract with the national team to 2030 and will oversee the next preparation.
Hugo now turns to Corinthians' Libertadores trip on Thursday, with kick-off at 21:30 at the Campeón Del Siglo in the fifth round.
