The future of Carlo Ancelotti will be on the line in the return leg of the Champions League’s quarter-finals, as Real Madrid will attempt to mount an improbable three-goal comeback over Arsenal, and in the final La Liga rounds, as Los Blancos are four points behind Barcelona, Fabrizio Romano informs (via OneFootball).

In the meantime, he disclosed that he turned down the opportunity of helming the Azzurri in the past in an interview with RSI.

“I said no to the Italian national team. I like to be on the pitch every day and prepare the practices. It looked like a part-time job that would make me lose some passion to. Just for that reason.”

Ancelotti shared a tidbit about his Real Madrid return.

“In reality, I was the one who called them. We had talked the previous year to see if they had players they could send to Everton, and we signed James Rodriguez. The following summer, I was aware they were looking for a manager. I told their director to hire a good one.”

Ancelotti would have liked to guide a different Premier League side.

“My dream was to coach Liverpool, then I ended up with the Toffees and experienced that rivalry. I’m absolutely a fan now. I liked their environment. There’s spectacular passion toward their colors. You also notice their suffering toward their foes, who have been fighting for the title for many years and also today.”

Ancelotti waxed lyrical about Filippo Inzaghi.

“He was a great talent because he could read the situations and get open like nobody else. He bagged over 300 goals, and just 10 percent of them with more than one touch.”
