Andre Onana’s future at Manchester United hangs in the balance following Senne Lammens’ arrival this summer.
The Cameroonian custodian hasn’t been in his element since moving to Old Trafford from Inter Milan in 2023.
The Red Devils’ summer-long search for a new goalkeeper ended on transfer deadline day, with Lammens joining from Royal Antwerp in an £18m deal.
The 23 year old is highly rated in the European circuit and has all the makings of a United star. Dubbed “Baby Courtois”, Lammens has also received praise from the Real Madrid man.
Onana’s time at Old Trafford, as such, could be numbered, with recent reports suggesting that Ruben Amorim is willing to sanction his departure.
According to TBR Football, Al-Ittihad and Al-Shabab are among the clubs ready to offer Onana a lifeline. T
he transfer window is open in Saudi Arabia until September 10, and clubs are scurrying to make final changes to their squad.
Onana was apparently informed in August that United would sign a new goalkeeper this summer. As things stand, he could end up becoming the No. 3 at Old Trafford this season, behind Lammens and Altay Bayindir.
Galatasaray are apparently keeping a close eye on the Cameroonian’s situation, but there’s a rising interest in his signature from the Middle East.
Al-Shabab are eager to prise him away before the end of the window. Al-Ittihad admire Onana as well, but their foreign quota is full, so they have to offload players before a deal can materialize.
The report adds that Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr also have the 29 year old on their radar as they look for an upgrade between the sticks.
Onana is no longer guaranteed game time at United under Amorim. The player has already lost his place to Bayindir this season, with the Turkish custodian preferred in all three Premier League games.
The Cameroonian’s only appearance for the English giants was in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town last week, where he was at fault for both goals.
Nevertheless, his suitors from Turkey and the Middle East are willing to bet on the player. Onana could now be tempted to end his Old Trafford nightmare and continue his career elsewhere.
