André-Pierre Gignac, 40, plans to keep playing despite being out of contract at Tigres UANL, seeking one more season in Monterrey or elsewhere.

According to L'Équipe, he has been on holiday since 31 May, after Tigres drew 1-1 with Toluca then lost 5-6 on penalties, yet he still trains for one hour fifteen each morning and plays amateur games in Monterrey.

He launched a pizzeria, Petite Canaille, with two cousins in San Pedro Garza Garcia this year to promote Marseille know-how, not to plan a career change. He feels good physically and mentally, but Mauricio Doehner has not offered him a new deal or a role. UANL have also let retirement rumours run without confirming any non-renewal.

A club icon since 2015, he holds sway in the dressing room with Diego Lainez. Though relations with Veljko Paunovic were strained, he accepted reduced minutes under Guido Pizarro, whose appointment on 2 March 2025 owed something to Gignac's support.

He has 222 goals and 49 assists in 445 matches, most recently deciding the Clasico Regiomontano against CF Monterrey, 1-0 on 8 March.

The France international, seven goals in 36 caps, has asked for a one-year extension plus a clause to move into a leadership post, such as vice-president. With the club non-committal, he waits.

Liga MX restarts on 16 July and Tigres are due back on 25 June, a session he hopes to join. He has declined World Cup offers and will consider Boca Juniors or Club America if Tigres stay silent.
