A livid Ange Postecoglou admitted Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion was "the worst" he has suffered during his time as Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Spurs were 2-0 up at half-time after goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison, but a second-half collapse saw Brighton net three unanswered goals en route to a stunning comeback victory.

Postecoglou did not mince his words after the final whistle and hit out at an 'unacceptable' performance from Spurs.

"It's disappointing and frustrating," he said. "I am absolutely gutted with that.

"That is probably the worst defeat we've had since I've been here. It was an unacceptable second half. We weren't anywhere near where we should be. We got carried away with how we were going. We kind of accepted our fate which is hard to understand. We usually fight for everything. When you don't you pay a price, and today we paid the price."

When asked whether complacency was the main cause of Spurs' slump, Postecoglou continued to lash out at his players.

"Wherever it comes from doesn’t matter, it's unacceptable," the boss continued. "That's the first time since I've been here that we've lost a game in that manner. If you don't compete and allow the opponent to over-run you in that manner, you aren't going to get anything.

"We didn’t do what you need to do. We weren't competitive, we lacked intensity, we didn't deliver the things you need to do. And paid a price for it. We didn't deserve to get something out of the game, if we had, we'd have been falsely rewarded."
