Angola ‘in talks’ with Castello Lukeba over potential switch

Angola are in talks with RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba over a potential switch of sporting nationality.

"We are trying to convince him to accept our project. We had a conversation with him. He still believes he can play for France," said federation vice-president Carlos Alonso, speaking to Bola em campo.

Lukeba, 23, the former Lyon centre-back, is in the country on holiday and could play under head coach Aliou Cissé if he changed allegiance.

With both parents of Angolan origin, a nationality change is possible, although Alonso accepts the chances of persuading him are slim for now.

He has one France cap, earned on 17 October 2023 in a friendly against Scotland. He also won silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and Alonso said he was in France's preliminary World Cup list.
