Another Atalanta transfer masterclass with Ederson to Manchester United for €50m | OneFootball

Ederson is set to join Manchester United for €50m including add-ons, making him the fifth biggest sale in Atalanta’s history, and shows why the club has been so successful.

Atletico Madrid had already agreed personal terms several weeks ago with the Brazilian, but failed to meet the asking price of €50m set by La Dea.

This gave Manchester United an opening and they took advantage, matching the Atleti wages and proposing €45m plus up to a further €5m in bonuses.

It will make Ederson the fifth biggest sale of Atalanta’s transfer history, surpassing the €40.7m that Inter paid for Alessandro Bastoni in 2017.

This is a remarkable feat considering they paid just €22.9m to sign him from Salernitana in the summer of 2022.

Atalanta have set the template for many Italian clubs in their ability to get results while still making huge profits from player sales.

The biggest exit was also to Manchester United, when Rasmus Hojlund was sold for €79.8m in 2023.

Mateo Retegui went to Al-Qadsiah for €61.75m last summer, and the year before that Juventus shelled out €58.4m for Teun Koopmeiners.

Cristian Romero was a masterstroke, as they signed him from Juventus for €19.3m thanks to a loan with option to buy, then immediately sent him to Tottenham Hotspur for €53.8m in 2022.

It is notable that in each of the last five years, Atalanta sold one player for a minimum of €50m, therefore allowing them to invest in new signings to develop for the future.

That is not including the €35m earned from selling Ademola Lookman to Atletico Madrid in January 2026.
