Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois on Wednesday took a significant step forward in his efforts to return to full fitness.

Goalkeeper Courtois, for his part, has of course been sidelined since late last month.

After seeing out the 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s derby stalemate with city rivals Atlético, the Belgian international was subsequently diagnosed with an abductor injury in his left leg.

Courtois was forced to sit out Los Blancos’ ensuing meetings with LOSC Lille and Villarreal, Andriy Lunin stepping in in place of the former Chelsea standout.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from Valdebebas is anything to go by, then Carlo Ancelotti and his coaching staff should not expect to be without their no.1 for much longer.

This comes amid confirmation that Courtois has returned to the grass, a sizeable step towards a return to competitive action.

Should all go according to plan, the 32-year-old should be available to feature from the off in Real’s first outing post-international break, against Celta Vigo on October 19th.
